Granite Peak Ski Area & Rib Mountain State Park: High Speed Lifts, Terrain Park & 75 RunsThis is the type of ski destination you'd expect to find out west. Granite Peak has 74 runs including acres of beginner runs all the way up to super-steep expert chutes plus mogul runs and snowboard terrain parks. While this north-facing mountain collects more than its share of natural snow, it has some 500 snow-guns to keep the season going strong. Adding to the enjoyment is the most modern lift system in the Midwest. There are family festival weekends, seasonal specials and even fall chairlift rides. A Base Village includes a rental shop, demo areas, a learning center, sports shop and historic chalet. It's less than five miles from the Jefferson Street Inn.
Rock One of the Oldest Rock Formations on EarthRib Mountain State Park, with rock formations estimated to be one billion years old, has a well-maintained network of hiking and nature trails that meander through the park's rocky outcroppings. Make a point to enjoy the views from the 60-foot observation tower. For winter outdoor enthusiasts, there's snowshoeing at the park too. In less than 15 minutes you can be on the trails here.
